SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA — September 14, 2009 — Howard Leight® today formally introduced HearForever™, a major initiative aimed to raise awareness of the dangers, risks and consequences of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) at work and at home.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA – Howard Leight today officially introduced QuietDose™ -- the only personal dosimeter that measures and records a worker’s actual in-ear exposure to noise over an entire work shift.  The introduction is a major advance towards stopping the progression of occupational hearing loss and ensuring employer compliance with hearing safety regulations.

Smithfield, RI – In anticipation of the EPA's expected change to the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR), Howard Leight has issued a brochure that explains known details of the proposed changes for hearing protectors. Titled, "Inside the EPA's Proposed Change to the Noise Reduction Rating," the brochure is designed as a handy information resource for safety managers, providing background on the impending new rating system and the ANSI testing protocols on which it is expected to be based.

Smithfield, RI -- A recent field attenuation study conducted by the Howard Leight Acoustical Laboratory on the performance of hearing protection devices showed that individual, one-on-one training was the most significant factor in predicting good earplug performance.

Smithfield, RI – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to provide hearing protection for workers exposed to hazardous noise. Best practice has shown that providing a good variety of hearing protectors improves compliance. But smart employers will also encourage employees to take hearing protectors home, says Howard Leight's Theresa Y. Schulz, PhD.

Smithfield, RI -- A new poster available free from Howard Leight details the care and maintenance of Earplugs and Earmuffs. Designed for placement on worksite bulletin boards or in other high-traffic areas, the colorful poster provides clear instructions for each type of hearing protection device.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A. — The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed changes governing Noise Reduction Ratings will help to “refocus hearing conservation programs to prevent employee hearing loss, and reflect real-world realities in the workplace,” according to Brad Witt, Director of Hearing Conservation for Sperian Hearing Protection, LLC.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA  – Though most companies are committed to employee Hearing Conservation Programs, many still struggle to obtain a true assessment of the specific effectiveness of their efforts – and of the individual hearing protection products they deploy – on a worker-by-worker basis.

In the world of personal protective equipment, bad assumptions are hazardous and can result in injury — or worse. Yet, despite 25 years of government regulation, a handful of persistent bad assumptions are widespread — endangering both the effectiveness of occupational Hearing Conservation Programs (HCPs) – and worker hearing.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA – December 15, 2009 – Mergers and acquisitions are commonplace today. As competitors come together to expand their reach globally or complete a product portfolio they also must face integration challenges, including the integration of safety programs.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA, January 5, 2010 – In many occupational Hearing Conservation Programs, solutions often become a problem – a seemingly endless cycle of behaviors and tactics that yield minimal results and little real-world data.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A. — February 15, 2010— Hearing conservation experts from Howard Leight / Sperian Hearing Protection will be presenters at the 2010 National Hearing Conservation Association’s (NHCA) Conference, February 25-27, 2010, in Orlando, Fla.

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A. — 22 February, 2010 — Two free seminars are scheduled for Calgary and Edmonton in March to help employers improve hearing conservation efforts and prevent noise-induced hearing loss among their workers.

Titled “HearForever™: Best Practices in Hearing Conservation,” the three-hour sessions will provide employers with practical information on noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and the latest research and technologies to enhance worker hearing protection programs.
