Free Seminars in Alberta to Help Employers Prevent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Among Workers

SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A. — 22 February, 2010 — Two free seminars are scheduled for Calgary and Edmonton in March to help employers improve hearing conservation efforts and prevent noise-induced hearing loss among their workers.

Titled “HearForever™: Best Practices in Hearing Conservation,” the three-hour sessions will provide employers with practical information on noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and the latest research and technologies to enhance worker hearing protection programs.

Set for Calgary on 29 March and Edmonton on 30 March, industrial hygienists, occupational health & safety professionals, safety managers, and audiologists are urged to attend.

Topics will include:

  • Basics of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss
  • Key Elements of an Effective Hearing Conservation Program

  • Selection and Fitting of Hearing Protectors
  • Employee Motivation and Training Techniques/Resources
  • New Hearing Conservation Innovations and Technologies

Attendees will receive free training materials, literature and hearing protection samples.  Following each seminar, attendees will also have the opportunity for hands-on demonstrations of Howard Leight’s new VeriPRO® earplug fit testing system and QuietDose® in-ear dosimetry.

The seminars will feature Director of Hearing Conservation Brad Witt of Howard Leight®/Sperian Hearing Protection, LLC.  Witt has 25 years of experience and has trained professional groups in all aspects of hearing conservation in 14 countries on five continents. He’s been recognized as Outstanding Lecturer twice by the National Hearing Conservation Association.

“Our goal is to provide Alberta employers with the latest data, technologies, and know-how to effectively manage their Hearing Conservation Programs — for the benefit of their workers, as well as their own bottom-line,” he said.

The Calgary seminar will be held Monday, 29 March, at the Glenmore Inn & Convention Centre from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  The free seminar includes a complementary continental breakfast. The presentation is in partnership with the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering - Calgary and the Manufacturer's Health & Safety Association.
